Kehilat Hadar is pleased to offer services for the High Holidays on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur as well as Selichot. Please read through the following information to become familiar with the registration process and other important details. There are some changes for this year.
Services are now completely full and registration is closed. Gmar chatimah tovah.
Aryeh Bernstein, Rachel Forster Held and Meir Schecter will be our shelichei tzibur (prayer leaders). Aryeh and Rachel will be our shelichei tzibur for morning services on Rosh Hashanah, and Meir, Aryeh and Rachel will be our shelichei tzibur for Yom Kippur. As always, our services will use traditional liturgy and be filled with spirited singing. Rabbi Elie Kaunfer will be among our teachers this year.
All are welcome to join us for Selichot Services, led by Aryeh Bernstein, on Saturday, September 4 at 11:30 p.m. in the Beit Midrash of the Jewish Theological Seminary (122nd and Broadway).
We extend a warm invitation to families with young children wishing to attend High Holiday services, with babysitting available again this year. For more information about family programming over high holidays, visit this page.
Donations
At Kehilat Hadar, we believe that meaningful davening (praying) experiences and learning opportunities should be available to all, and we do not charge membership fees or sell tickets for High Holiday services. However, Kehilat Hadar relies on your donation to maintain high quality davening and programming in our community.
We are excited that Kehilat Hadar has met almost every Shabbat morning since January 2009, though this change resulted in a significant increase in our costs. Costs will again rise significantly this year due to increased rental rates for Shabbat morning services. Kehilat Hadar has an annual budget of approximately $165,000
. This includes the following costs:
- $250 for a Beit Midrash class
- $1,400 for a Shabbat morning service
- $1,800 for a Shabbat Lunch and Learn
During the registration process, you will be asked to make a donation to Kehilat Hadar to help support our programs both on the High Holidays and throughout the year. As you know, Kehilat Hadar is volunteer-run, and we rely on your generosity, of both time and money. We ask for a fully tax-deductible contribution of *$250* per adult, or *$180* per student, whether you are attending high holiday services or not. If you are able, please consider donating at an increased level of $500 or another amount of your choice. We request a minimum donation of $36 per person, but we ask that you please give as much as you as you are able.
As before, you can make a one-time donation via check or PayPal, but you are now also able to set up a recurring monthly payment on PayPal. For example, consider a gift of $21 per month for 12 months, amounts to a $252 annual contribution.
If you will not be joining us for High Holidays, please consider making your 2010 donation now.

Volunteering & High Holiday Hosted Meals
Kehilat Hadar depends on volunteers to run all aspects of its programs. You'll have opportunities to sign up to volunteer for High Holidays and for Hadar in general during the registration process, and we encourage you to do so!
Once you have signed up for High Holiday services, you will receive a confirmation e-mail that will review your registration and also invite you to sign up to host or attend a Rosh Hashanah meal with other Hadar-goers. These meals are a great way to meet people in the community, so please consider volunteering to be a host if you are able! If you are interested in guesting or hosting, let us know no later than Thursday, August 26. Sign up for hosted meals is now closed!
