Kehilat Hadar is pleased to offer services for the High Holidays on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Rabbi Julia Andelman, Rabbi Aryeh Bernstein, Yossi Hoffman, and Rabbi Aviva Richman will be our anchor shelichei tzibur (prayer leaders). Aviva, Aryeh, and Yossi will be our shelichei tzibur for morning services on Rosh Hashanah, and Aryeh, Julia and Yossi will be our shelichei tzibur for Yom Kippur. Rabbi Aviva Richman, Jeremy Tabick, Dena Weiss, and Dr. Sarah Wolf will be our keynote teachers. Aviva and Sarah will teach on Rosh Hashanah, and Jeremy and Dena will teach on Yom Kippur.
Here’s what you can look forward to at KH High Holiday services:
- Spirited, egalitarian davening
- Traditional liturgy
- Widespread communal participation
- Inspiring melodies
- Thoughtful divrei Torah
- Family friendly atmosphere including babysitting
We extend a warm invitation to families with young children wishing to attend High Holiday services. See below for more information about babysitting and brand new programs on each day of services.
Kehilat Hadar relies on your donations to maintain its financial stability. All of the money you donate is used to fund our operating costs and programming. The more we raise, the more frequently we’ll be able to meet. Your donation has a direct impact on our ability to continue providing year-round high quality davening and programming. We raise the bulk of our operating budget in our fall campaign.
To meet our annual budget of $135,000*, we are striving to raise $115,000 this fall. The largest portion of those funds goes toward Shabbat morning services, which cost $1,640 per week.
We ask that people registering for High Holiday services as well as community members who attend KH services and programs throughout the year donate $390 per person (or $250 for full-time students). Donating at this level is one way to qualify for voting membership. Please indicate your interest in membership when registering.
Requested donations levels are as follows:
- Adults: $390 per person ($780 per couple)
- Adults who are full time students: $250
- Minimum requested donation: $130
Donations of any size are greatly appreciated, and all donations are fully tax deductible. We do not turn anyone away for lack of funds. Please email Jason Lehrer at firstname.lastname@example.org if cost is a barrier to your participation.
If you already made a donation to the 5780 campaign, you should receive a coupon code by email to bypass the payment requirement for High Holiday services registration. Please email any questions to email@example.com.
Due to expected demand, we require that people sign up for services in advance. We will not have room to accommodate those who do not sign up. A waiting list will be available once capacity is reached. Please only sign up if you plan on coming, and let us know if you need to cancel. We unfortunately cannot offer refunds for donations.
Babysitting & Kids Programming
Kehilat Hadar will offer babysitting during both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services for families with young children (contingent on sufficient interest). We are excited to let you know that in addition to babysitting each day, we are also planning to offer Family Services on Rosh Hashanah (first day) and Yom Kippur, as well as a Story Time on Rosh Hashanah (second day). Children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver for these additional programs.
Please register everyone in your family, including all children (at the children's rate of $40). We will contact you separately for more information about which services your children will be attending. We'd appreciate if all children are registered by Monday, September 23, so that we can make programming plans accordingly.

Volunteering & High Holiday Hosted Meals
Kehilat Hadar depends on volunteers to run all aspects of its programs. You'll have opportunities to sign up to volunteer for High Holidays and for general Kehilat Hadar services during the registration process, and we encourage you to do so!
Hosted meals are a great way to meet people in the community. If you are able to host or if you are looking to be hosted, please email Hilana Ezekiel and Michoel Snow at firstname.lastname@example.org before September 20. We'll make our best effort to match up guests and hosts.
Learn High Holiday Melodies
If you are interested in learning some of the High Holiday melodies used at Kehilat Hadar in advance of services, please consider the following:
- Listen to melodies used in previous years at Kehilat Hadar's High Holiday services
- Pri Eitz Hadar, our very own CD originally released in 2004, now available on our YouTube channel! It includes a number of High Holiday melodies used at Hadar on the High Holidays.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
We wish you a happy and healthy year ahead!
*Our annual Shavuot Retreat is not included in our operating budget as we structure it to pay for itself through registration fees. As in the past, our 2020 Shavuot Retreat will feature discounted pricing for members. For some ways to get involved visit: kehilathadar.org/getinvolved or email@example.com.
