Kehilat Hadar is pleased to offer services for the High Holidays on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Rabbi Julia Andelman, Aryeh Bernstein, Yossi Hoffman, and Aaron Kasman will be our anchor shelichei tzibur (prayer leaders). Aaron, Aryeh, and Yossi will be our shelichei tzibur for morning services on Rosh Hashanah, and Aryeh, Julia and Yossi will be our shelichei tzibur for Yom Kippur. Dena Weiss will be our keynote teacher on Rosh Hashanah and Rabbi Will Friedman will be our keynote teacher on Yom Kippur.
Here’s what you can look forward to at KH High Holiday services:
- Spirited, egalitarian davening
- Traditional liturgy
- Widespread communal participation
- Inspiring melodies
- Thoughtful divrei Torah
- Family friendly atmosphere including babysitting
We extend a warm invitation to families with young children wishing to attend High Holiday services, with babysitting available again this year. See below for more information about babysitting.
Kehilat Hadar relies on your contributions to maintain its financial stability. All of the money you donate will be used to pay for our operating costs and programming. The more we’re able to raise, the more frequently we’ll be able to meet. Our need is real, and your donation will have real impact on our ability to continue providing year-round high quality davening and programming.
We need to raise $98,000* to cover our annual operating budget for the coming year. The largest portion of those funds goes toward space rental for Shabbat morning services, which is $1,320 per week. We ask that all adults registering for KH services and programs donate $390 per person ($780 per couple) or $250 for full-time students, and we request a minimum donation of $120. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated, and all donations are fully tax deductible. We do not turn anyone away for lack of funds. Please email Jason Lehrer via firstname.lastname@example.org if cost is a barrier to your participation.
If you already made a donation to the 5778 campaign, you should receive a coupon code by email to bypass the payment requirement for High Holiday services registration. Please email any questions to email@example.com.
Due to expected demand, we require that people sign up for services in advance. We will not have room to accommodate those who do not sign up. A waiting list will be available once capacity is reached. Please only sign up if you plan on coming, and let us know if you need to cancel. We unfortunately cannot offer refunds for donations.
Kehilat Hadar will offer babysitting during both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services for families with young children, contingent on sufficient interest. Please include your child as a participant and select the children's registration rate ($40). We will contact you for more information about your child's age and which services they will be attending.
Volunteering & High Holiday Hosted Meals
Kehilat Hadar depends on volunteers to run all aspects of its programs. You'll have opportunities to sign up to volunteer for High Holidays and for general Kehilat Hadar services during the registration process, and we encourage you to do so!
Hosted meals are a great way to meet people in the community. If you are able to host or if you are looking to be hosted, please email Sarah Ebstein at firstname.lastname@example.org before September 15. Note that for those looking to be hosted, we can't guarantee hosts for all meals requested; for those volunteering to host, we can't guarantee that you will be hosting for any/all meals.
Learn High Holiday Melodies
If you are interested in learning some of the High Holiday melodies used at Kehilat Hadar in advance of services, please consider the following:
Listen to melodies used in previous years at Kehilat Hadar's High Holiday services
Download Pri Eitz Hadar, our very own CD originally released in 2004, now available as a digital download! It includes a number of High Holiday melodies used at Hadar on the High Holidays.
Please contact us if you have any questions.
We wish you a happy and healthy year ahead!
*Our annual Shavuot Retreat is not included in our operating budget as we structure it to pay for itself through registration fees. As in the past, our 2018 Shavuot Retreat will feature preferential pricing levels for those who contribute to our community in the coming year with a donation at or above the suggested contribution level of $390 per individual or by regularly serving the community by volunteering five times over the course of the coming year.
